For the last couple of weeks, my 15 month-old started moving things into a pile and then plopped himself on top. Whether it be boxes or dirty laundry, Lolo (as we like to call him sometimes) was making himself a chair to lounge in. He’s not tall enough to get onto the couch on his own. When he does make it up there, there’s a lot of activity too close to the edge for my comfort so I end up putting back him down on the floor. So what should I do? Get him his own chair.
As it turns out, there are huge benefits to kids having their own chairs. Not only does it create a space for them, but it also reclaims some personal space for you. Imagine sitting on the couch…by yourself…without a toddler all up in your business. Also, because your toddler now has his own chair, it reduces the risk of him climbing on “adult furniture” and, by proxy, leaving a new stain of some sort. BONUS!
Whether it’s modeled after an adult accent chair or emblazoned with cartoon characters, giving your mini-me their own toddler chair will give him or her a place of their own to get excited about.
When shopping for a toddler chair, there are a few things to consider. Is it lightweight enough to transport to multiple rooms but sturdy enough not to tip over? What will be purpose of this chair? Is it a spot for watching TV, reading books, taking naps, something else? Or all of the above? Figure out your needs and then start shopping.
Lolo is obsessed with dogs. I thought this one would be perfect! And then I thought about the amount of times he would stand up, look at it in the face and yell, “pup-pup!” Maybe not for us.
I think this bean bag option is really cute. The chair is extra long so it’s perfect for both kids and adults to lounge. Plus, the design doesn’t scream“kiddy,” so it will blend with most home decor. AND, the bean bag chair functions as toy storage. Need more? You can toss the cover in the washer whenever you need to.
This mid-century modern set is adorable. It’s mini furniture for your mini! If I had the room, this would be my pick for completely aesthetic reasons. If you’re on a budget, but still want something that looks like that chair, I’m talking about the Pottery Barn anywhere chair, this one has mixed reviews, but looks almost identical without the price tag.
What did I end up choosing? Sometimes I’m a Basic-B at heart. I personalized this one and can’t wait for it to get here! I’m excited to see Lolo lounge in his own chair! Shop more picks below. Happy shopping!
xoxo
