My baby turns one this weekend! If there’s anything I’ve learned this past year, in addition to the huge emotional rollercoaster you put yourself through, it’s that babies are expensive. Every time baby does something new, he needs something new to accommodate his new skill or new milestone. Luckily, I’ve tried to mitigate these expenses by shopping smart. I took full advantage of the Bloomingdale’s Friends and Family Sale and was able to score an Uppababy Vista stroller at a deep discount (sort of, more on that later).
The basics. The Bloomingale’s Friends and Family Sale runs from now until 10/12. Take 25% off items labeled 25% off. Loyalists get $25 for every $100 (5,000 power points) spent on select items. Take $20 off every $150 spent in beauty. Free shipping for every. Triple points on select items. Phew, that’s a lot.
So how did I score an Uppababy Vista, the SUV of strollers some would call it, at a deep discount? The stroller retails between $930-$970 depending on the color choice. While pricey, I love this stroller because it comes with a bassinet, all the bells and whistles and handles like a dream. During the friends and family sale, this item is included in the promotion for power points, which means that for every $100 spent you get $25 back to spend later. At the current price point, yes, you have to pay full price up front, you will get $225 ($25*9=$225) in B-money to spend later. Yes, you will need this money for something else. We put it towards the Uppababy mesa carseat. I told hubby it was like buying the stroller and getting the carseat for free!
This time around, I’m looking at the Stokke Tripp Trapp high chair. Hubby rolled his eyes at me and asked why we couldn’t just get the $15 Ikea high chair. While I initially agreed with him, I realized that this high chair was the way to go. The Scandinavian design is impeccable and the chair will literally grow with your child. You can pull the chair up right to the table sans the tray and baby can eat with you as a family. The complete set retails for $350. Yes, spend another $50 to get to that $400 mark. Maybe you need a new pair of shoes? Treat yourself. At that rate, you will get $100 to spend later instead of $75, which means that the last $50 you spend to get those shoes you’re really spending $25. Get it? We love saving money.
