Key Pieces for a Transitional Outfit
September is here. Do you know what you’re wearing to transition from summer to fall? Do you have the key pieces to transition you into fall? Did you shop the Labor Day sales? Did you read my other post about Amazon pieces that transition to fall? You know I stalk web daily to find you the most amazing (and mostly affordable) pieces. Check out what I’ve found lately.
Yes, I know it’s still 90 degrees out in New York. It NEVER hurts to plan ahead. I’m looking at key pieces that can be worn alone now or layered for later. Think lightweight jean jackets, knit dresses, cardigans and chunky loafers.
Denim Jacket
We return to the denim jacket every season. This is a closet staple and a key piece to transition to fall with. The jean jacket is great for layering over a summer dress. It can be casual or dressed up depending how tailored you want the jacket to be. I LOVE the denim jacket from the GAP x LoveShackFancy collaboration. It’s classic, with a twist.
Vests
I’m obsessed with this padded vest! It’s slightly oversized and on the heavier size, but I LOVE it. This vest still feels light even though it looks heavy. I paired this vest with knit skirt set here and then again with a bike short. I like to wear my vests with bike shorts during the transitional period. These are my favorite. Yes, they are from Amazon. And yes, they are a fraction of the price as these, which are also a favorite of mine. Then, as the weather changes, add more layers, thicker layers and finally, pants. The options are endless!
Think about your key pieces this way. You have the knit skirt set (or a dress). How about this one? Throw the vest on top in the morning and if you’re out all day, you can take the vest off later and put it back on when it gets chillier at night. This is how key pieces work. They work for you, not the other way around.
Lounge Set
I LOVE a good lounge set. It’s comfortable and hugs the body beautifully. The fabric is super cozy and super comfy. That being said, I’d keep this one at home during the heatwave, but definitely wear it to the grocery store or somewhere air conditioned while you’re running errands. And DEFINITELY bring it with you on your next getaway.
Cardigan
Did someone ask for a cardigan. Here it is! A cardigan is a key piece to transition into fall. It can pull together an entire outfit while keeping you warm. I really like this Target stripe cardigan. This one is no frills, so it doesn’t have buttons, but this cardigan does have great pockets.
Half-Zip Sweater
This stripe sweater is a key transitional piece. You can wear it now with bike shorts (my favorite) and then again later with leather pants. Mine here are faux leather. The zipper is a nice detail. You can achieve the same look with a sweater without the zipper.

In conclusion, key pieces are crucial to your fall fashion transitional outfits. They can create and give you many outfit ideas, as well as give you extra layers to transition from summer to fall. I will always be an incredible resource for you when you want to add pieces to your wardrobe or find new ideas. Keep investing in quality items and pieces you love. Keep investing in classic accessories and shoes, as those items will stay with you for a long time.
